Alva and James are engaged!

As a wedding photographer, I often get bookings from clients without even meeting them at all. But to be completely honest, I do prefer to meet my couples before they sign the contract. I love that initial meeting, where you get to learn about the couple and see how they interact with each other. I especially love it when they tell me the story of the proposal! After being in the business for so many years, I’ve heard a lot of proposal stories. Like, a lot. Proposals where there was no surprise at all since the bride wants to pick out her own ring. Proposals where it was totally unexpected. And sometimes, I am even part of the proposal where I either document it for the couple, or help my groom out with shopping for the perfect box to put the ring in 🙂 Obviously I’m biased, but my favorite proposal story was when Kevin proposed to me 🙂

Well, after all those proposal stories, never have I heard of one like Alva and James’s. Have you ever heard of a guy leaving the engagement ring OUT IN THE OPEN to pick up his girlfriend? AND not returning to the ring immediately, but went to another location just to throw her off about the proposal?? Well, James did.

Okay fine, so maybe I was exaggerating a little. He did not leave the ring out in the open. He actually left it inside a tree hole of some sort, inside a public park. Yup. Not so open. :p

Needless to say, the ring was still there when they got to the park, along with the picnic that James had prepared. 🙂 And of course, Alva said yes.

For their engagement session, we went to the Toronto center island. We were there on a weekday and luckily, there were not a lot of people. We even went inside the empty Centreville and took a few photos there!

Alva and James are every photographer’s dream! They did everything I had asked them to do~ Including taking off their shoes to walk on the rocks to get to the edge of the water for the city scape shot. 🙂 I absolutely cannot wait until their wedding this Saturday!
